Just as you thought WeChat usage figures in China can’t get any higher, the most innovative Chinese social network proves otherwise. According to the most recent report released by Tencent, WeChat registered 768 million daily users. In other words, about 60% of the world most populous nation is logged in to WeChat every day.
This represents 35% percent year-on-year growth which no social network of this size has been able to match. Average WeChat usage time stands at 90 minutes – 50% of users use WeChat for at least 1.5 hours every single day.

Sending messages remains the most popular activity which also grew by 67% compared to the last year. According to WeChat usage data, new users prefer this way of communication, sending on average 81 messages each day. Voice messages are more popular with senior (long term) users representing 22% of all messages for users in this category.
Using WeChat to make calls is the fastest growing activity. Last year, total talk time on WeChat surpassed that of China’s mobile carriers. According to the report, WeChat handles 100 million calls every day which is 180% more than a year ago.
WeChat usage for calls stands between 65 to 82 minutes each month depending on user category.
WeChat has also released data related to traveling. It shows that USA is the top holiday destination for Chinese travelers – about twice more popular than the next one, Taiwan. It also revealed that 90% of US bound travelers hail from 1st tier cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Another extremely popular activity on WeChat is sending “red envelopes” between users or, as it is often called now, the social cash. It always peaks during major Chinese holidays. During last year Spring festival, WeChat has handled an astonishing 2.35 billion red envelopes sent between users.
